Resolution Naming Memphis Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial City

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. MEMORIAL CITY

Whereas Martin Luther King, Jr. was murdered in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4, 1968...

Whereas no appropriate monument dedicated to this architect of a better United States of America is currently erect in Memphis, Tennessee...

Whereas Memphis, Tennessee is preodominantly populated by people of color, yet there is not one definitive niche of commerce in the city that is controlled by them...

Whereas Memphis, Tennessee is the home of the National Civil Rights Museum at The Lorraine Motel...

Whereas all Memphians aspire to be worthy of Dr. King's great sacrifice, and to live up to Dr. King's ideals and principles...

Whereas the city of Memphis, Tennessee epitomizes the esthetic beauty of the American South...
